GRAPHIC: Winter weather closings rare at MU

Tuesday and Wednesday’s cancellations marked the eighth time in MU’s 175-year history that it has closed its campus or canceled classes because of winter weather. Not pictured is 1949, when the start of spring semester was delayed for unspecified reasons, according to MU records.

COLUMBIA — February has been a heavy snow month for MU recently, forcing the school to close its campus and cancel classes three times since 2011.

Tuesday and Wednesday's snowstorm that dumped 6.5 inches on Columbia closed the campus for two days. The closure was just the eighth of its kind in the university's 175-year history. MU shut down for three days in February 2011, two days in February 2013 and two days this week.
