ST. LOUIS — The new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge is open for traffic in St. Louis, but signage on the Illinois side causes some confusion.

The new bridge carrying Interstate 70 traffic opened over the weekend. It is expected to carry about 40,000 vehicles per day and reduce traffic on the Poplar Street Bridge by about 20 percent.

KMOV-TV reported that drivers trying to access the bridge on the Illinois side using the I-70 West exit noticed a "closed" sign early Monday, even though the bridge was open. The Illinois Department of Transportation said it would remove the "closed" signs.

Drivers using GPS units were also have trouble because the new bridge does not yet show up on most GPS programs.
