BERKELEY — Two children killed in a St. Louis County house fire couldn't get out because of a deadbolt lock on the front door.

The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Monday in a small frame home in Berkeley. Berkeley Police Maj. Art Jackson said several space heaters were being used to heat the home, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Names and ages of the victims have not been released, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the children killed are boys ages 2 and 4. The boys were found inside the locked front door.

Jackson saidthe parents and an infant got out but were injured. He says the father had the most severe injuries, partly from going back in to try and save the children.
