Bernice M. Johnston, 99, of Columbia, was born December 20, 1914 in De Soto, MO and died February 9, 2014.

There will be a visitation at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, with service at 4 p.m. at Meorial Funeral Home.

She attended school in the Herculaneum, Missouri School District. Upon graduation Ms. Johnston completed a secretarial training program and began employment as a secretary at Herculaneum High School. She also served as the pianist for many years at the Herculaneum Baptist Church.

Bernice retired in 1981 after 45 years and relocated to Columbia, MO in 1988, where she lived until her passing.

In 2012, Bernice was installed as a member of the Herculaneum High School Hall of Fame, recognizing her many years of devoted service to the school.

Bernice traveled extensively in her life, visiting: Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and several European countries. She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles, music and reading.

Bernice was especially fond of the staff and her friends at Candlelight Lodge.

Bernice is survived by two nephews: Howard Kincaid and wife, Gina of Columbia, and Mike Johnston and wife Becky of Sheridan, Wyoming; Also surviving are three great nephews and five great-great nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia Public Library.
