Missouri baseball finds series for opening weekend

Thursday, February 13, 2014 | 9:04 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — Though winter weather in the southeastern United States nixed Missouri baseball's plans to compete in the University of North Florida Best Bet Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., the Tigers have found a place to play on college baseball's opening weekend.

Missouri, whose flight down south was cancelled earlier in the week, will fly to Houston, then head to Lake Charles, La., to play three games at McNeese State. The Tigers start with an 11 a.m. contest Saturday against Southern Mississippi, a team they will face in their third home series. Righthander John Miles is set to get the start.

Missouri will then play the hosts at 3 p.m. on Saturday and finish up against Chicago State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Tigers are coming off their first season as a member of the Southeastern Conference, where they finished 18-32 and fell in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

After this weekend's series, the team will travel to North Carolina for five games against five different opponents. Missouri's home opener is scheduled for Feb. 28 against Illinois-Chicago.
