COLUMBIA — USA Volleyball selected Missouri player Carly Kan and 11 other athletes Thursday to participate in a tour of China this summer.

Kan is reigning SEC Freshman of the Year and one of four outside hitters selected to the squad.

The program is meant as a way for college athletes to compete for future spots on the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team.

Kan's selection to the program is based on her performance at the national team's open tryouts, held Feb. 21 to 23 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The U.S. Collegiate National Team will train at the University of Southern California from June 13 to 15 before heading overseas.

From June 17 to 27, the team will compete in six matches against Chinese collegiate and adult teams.

The team will travel in partnership with the Pac-12 All-Star team.

USA Volleyball will have two other opportunities this summer for athletes to take part in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program, representing 60 total athletes.
