Columbia man, 23, dies in I-70 car crash

COLUMBIA — Jordan C. Elam, 23, of Columbia, died in a car crash on I-70 in Saline County on Saturday morning. Two other Columbia residents were injured in the crash.

Elam was traveling with Roderick Thomas, 21, and Dominique Thomas, 22, in a 2006 Infiniti that struck a tractor trailer as it tried to pass, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Elam was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Saline County coroner at 9:25 a.m.

Roderick Thomas was transported by air ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City with serious injuries. Dominique Thomas was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. Neither the driver nor the passengers in the Infiniti were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Joshua A. Outen, was not injured.
