Columbia man arrested on two counts of stealing, three counts of assault

COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges stretching back to January, according to Columbia Police spokeswoman Latisha Stroer.

Daniel Lee Reese was arrested by Columbia Police at about 11 a.m. at 1500 Vandiver Drive on three counts of domestic assault, third-offense stealing, felony stealing and a probation and parole violation, Stroer said.

Stroer said Reese was seen taking a Pioneer car stereo from the Walmart at 3001 W. Broadway on Jan. 27. He avoided security as he ran through the store and left without paying for the merchandise, Stroer said.

Then, on Feb. 4, officers were dispatched to a residence on Loch Lane because of a disturbance of a male and female at a residence. Stroer said the woman told officers that Reese assaulted her by grabbing her arms and shoving her into a dresser.

When the victim attempted to call 911, Reese took her cellphone and put it in his pocket, and he then fled the scene before police arrived, Stroer said.

A March 9 report says a man was seen walking into the liquor department at the Walmart at 415 Conley Road, where he grabbed a gift box that contained Grey Goose Vodka. He then was seen taking the vodka out of the gift box and exiting the store without paying for the merchandise. Reese was charged with third-offense stealing in the incident, Stroer said.

On March 10, Reese was cited with two counts of domestic assault. In this case, Stroer said, the victim said Reese shoved her into the kitchen cabinets, placed her in a choke hold and punched her breast one time.

According to the report, Reese's uncle tried to intervene, but Reese slapped, hit and punched him.

Reese is being held at the Boone County Sheriff's Department on a total bond of $16,500.

In January 2012, Reese was sentenced to serve six years in prison on several charges, including felony stealing. Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff's Department said Reese reported to the Department of Corrections on Jan. 26, 2012, but he had no further information about when or why Reese was released. The Missouri Department of Corrections did not return calls.

In November 2013, a restraining order was filed against Reese, according to court records, which do not reveal the names of people requesting the restraining order.

Previously, Reese was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff's Department on Jan. 17, 2011, for driving while his license was suspended but was released on bond, Reddin said.
