COLUMBIA — Jordan C. Elam was a spontaneous man, his girlfriend, Angela Wilhoit, said, adding that he was never in a bad mood.

“Jordan was the life of the party,” his younger sister Destini Patrick said. “His smile made everybody's daylight.”

Jordan C. Elam died after a car accident on Interstate 70 in Saline County on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was 23.

Mr. Elam was born July 31, 1990, in Columbia, to Shirley Patrick and Jeffrey Hayes.

He graduated from Job Point’s employment center in December and participated in a construction job for a Habitat for Humanity project in Columbia.

Mr. Elam liked to play basketball every Tuesday with his friends.

“He loved to help his friends,” Wilhoit said. “He wouldn’t plan anything ahead of time, but he would always be there for people he loved.”

One of his sisters, Shakara Hayes; paternal grandparents, Louis and Anna Elam; paternal grandmother Janice Hayes; an uncle, Albert Elam; and an aunt, Janet Elam, died earlier.
