COLUMBIA — Jordan C. Elam was a spontaneous man, his girlfriend, Angela Wilhoit, said, adding that he was never in a bad mood.
“Jordan was the life of the party,” his younger sister Destini Patrick said. “His smile made everybody's daylight.”
Jordan C. Elam died after a car accident on Interstate 70 in Saline County on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was 23.
Mr. Elam was born July 31, 1990, in Columbia, to Shirley Patrick and Jeffrey Hayes.
He graduated from Job Point’s employment center in December and participated in a construction job for a Habitat for Humanity project in Columbia.
Mr. Elam liked to play basketball every Tuesday with his friends.
“He loved to help his friends,” Wilhoit said. “He wouldn’t plan anything ahead of time, but he would always be there for people he loved.”
Mr. Elam is survived by his 5-year-old son, Kendred Malik Elam-Buchanan; his parents, Dean and Shirley Patrick of St. Louis; two brothers, Joshua Elam and Ramelus Bradley, both of Columbia; four sisters, Dalisha Waller of Columbia, Demetria Waller of Decatur, Ga., and Destini Patrick and Whitney Patrick, both of St. Louis; his grandmother, Patricia Tyler, of Columbia; his grandfather, Jimmy Turner, of Columbia; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
One of his sisters, Shakara Hayes; paternal grandparents, Louis and Anna Elam; paternal grandmother Janice Hayes; an uncle, Albert Elam; and an aunt, Janet Elam, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1707 Smiley Lane. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
