FAYETTE — A Macon County man was charged Thursday morning in the 2011 shooting death of Jon Spurling near Harrisburg.

Zack Jefferson, 34, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to the Howard County Sheriff's Office. He was being held without bond at the Howard County Jail.

Spurling, 39, was shot once in the abdomen and once in the head in August 2011 at his home on County Road 117 in Howard County.

Spurling’s friends and family created a Facebook page and a website to offer a reward for information that would lead to an arrest.

The Howard County Sheriff's Department planned to hold a 2 p.m. news conference in Fayette.
