Missourian Minute: Spring weather brings climbers back to Capen Park

Friday, March 14, 2014 | 4:36 p.m. CDT

The Missourian Minute is a regular series of scenes from around mid-Missouri. These visual slices of life capture the sights and sounds of people and the activities they love.

COLUMBIA — The bright rays of a springtime sun warmed the air and beckoned Columbia's climbers back to the wall at Capen Park.

Two of those climbers are MU freshmen John Kelly and Tyler Williams.

The engineering majors took advantage of the pleasant weather by escaping the confines of campus and scaling the rock walls that line Hinkson Creek in Capen Park.

"I've been out here every day this week," Kelly said.

Kelly and Williams were two of many people climbing this past week. With more than 25 top-rope routes, Capen Park allows multiple people to participate in the sport at once, leading to a community atmosphere.
