COLUMBIA — Police arrested a 28-year-old Fayette man Thursday on suspicion of distributing child pornography.

The investigation began in February. An investigator with the Boone County Sheriff's Department found a home network that offered child pornography through a file-sharing program, according to a news release from the department's Cyber Crimes Task Force. The investigator downloaded pre-pubescent pornography from the network at least twice, according to the release.

Police searched the residence where the network was connected to Wi-Fi. They determined that somebody nearby, but not in the house, was using the network for child pornography, according to the release.

Police arrested Joshua S. Barton of 169 County Road 302, Fayette, on suspicion of promoting child pornography. He was being held in the Howard County Jail on Thursday pending formal charges.
