COLUMBIA — Kenyata D. Miles, 33, of Columbia was indicted Wednesday on two counts of sex trafficking by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City.
Prosecutors said Miles coerced two victims, one of whom was a minor, into engaging in prostitution. He used the first victim from about March 2013 to April 30, 2013, and he used the second, minor victim in April 2013, according to the indictment.
The case was investigated by the FBI, the Boone County Sheriff's Department and the Osage Beach Police Department as part of the Human Trafficking Rescue Project, which launched in 2006.
Miles was charged with one count of sex trafficking and one count of the attempted sex trafficking of a child, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri. Both counts are Class A felonies.
If convicted, Miles would face sentences of 15 years to life in prison for trafficking an adult and 10 years to life for attempting to traffic a minor.
