COLUMBIA — Frankie May Miller was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma in 1922. She attended Gage (OK) High School where she was a member of the marching band. In 1940, she enrolled at Oklahoma A&M and graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1944. She met a graduate student, Oscar H. Calvert, in 1942, and Frankie and Oscar were married on August 5, 1944, in Madison, Wisconsin. They experienced 63 years of marriage before Oscar’s passing in 2007. Frankie was active as a Cub Scout den mother, Camp Fire Girls sponsor, a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, and a community volunteer. She lived in Budapest, Hungary from 1969-70, and Suwon, South Korea in 1978. Frankie was a devoted mother and grandmother, gracious and kind-hearted to all she met, and is surely holding hands with Oscar in heaven.
Frankie is survived by her son Kerry Calvert (Susan), of Portland, OR, Janet Sampson (Alan), of Columbia, Linda Landry (Hank), of Columbia, and Tracy Calvert (Rhonda) of Columbia, and her eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am on Wednesday, March 26, at First Presbyterian Church. A reception immediately follows. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt Street, Columbia, MO 65201.
