COLUMBIA — Sheriff's deputies arrested a Texas man on Monday after a 12-year-old girl said he touched her inappropriately and showed her pornographic images.

The probable cause statement and the Boone County Sheriff's Department give the following account:

The girl said her sister's boyfriend assaulted her at home on Feb. 13. She said he rubbed her under her pants, then he typed a sexually explicit message on his cellphone and showed it to her. She said she didn't respond and went to bed.

On March 11, sheriff's deputies were called to the girl's school after officials found in her locker two condoms and a handwritten, sexually explicit note. The girl told deputies her sister's boyfriend had given her those things a few days after he assaulted her.

The girl also told deputies that he showed her explicit images of himself on his cellphone.

La'Anthony D. Murphy, 24, of Texas, was arrested Monday on suspicion of first degree statutory sodomy and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor.

According to the probable cause statement, Murphy initially denied touching the girl or showing her any pictures, but he later recanted and said the girl put his hand down her pants.

He admitted that he showed the girl's 13-year-old brother one cellphone picture of a woman's breasts, according to the probable cause statement, and he showed deputies the same picture.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Murphy was being held in Boone County Jail. His bond has not been set.
