Violet A. Paige worked as a cook at MU

COLUMBIA — Violet A. Paige of Columbia died Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was 86.

She was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Columbia to Hubert and Martha Jane (Calloway) Mitchell.

She attended Frederick Douglass High School. She married the Rev. Oscar W. Paige Jr.

Mrs. Paige worked as a cook for MU. She prepared meals for the hospital, fraternities and sororities.

Mrs. Paige is survived by two children, Veronica Flowers of Columbia and Nathaniel Paige of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, the Rev. Oscar W. Paige Jr.; two brothers, Mayo Mitchell and Hubert Mitchell, Jr.; two sisters, Edna Mae and Viola; a great-grandson Dominic; and two nieces, Wanda Diane and Linda Sue, died earlier.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1707 Smiley Lane.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mrs. Paige's children and grandchildren in the care of Memorial Funeral Home.
