Eva M. Meentemeyer, Dec. 16, 1917 — March 25, 2014, of St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — Eva M. Meentemeyer of St. Louis died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She was 96.

Eva was the mother of Bruce Meentemeyer, and wife Ruth; and grandmother of Price and Ian Meentemeyer of Hartsburg, formerly Columbia.

Eva was born at Okawville, Illinois, on December 16, 1917, a twin daughter of Jacob and Eula (nee Richards) Stricker. She was united in marriage to Oliver V. Meentemeyer of New Minden, Ill., on September 3, 1949, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Minden. Oliver preceded her in death on February 19, 2005.

She attended grade school in Okawville and high school in Nashville, Ill., graduating in 1936. She purchased the Main Beauty Shoppe in Okawville in 1944 and operated it until 1950. She continued to work as a hair stylist after she and Oliver moved to St. Louis in 1952.

She loved cooking, camping, fishing, going for leisurely boat rides, travelling and writing stories of her beautiful life in her journals.

She was a life-long member of United Methodist Church, Okawville, Ill., and also a member of Concord Trinity United Methodist Church, St. Louis; where she was past chair of a church circle.

In addition to her husband, Oliver Meentemeyer, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jan Meentemeyer; five sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2014, at United Methodist Church, 404 N. Hanover St., Okawville IL; with Pastor Darryl Young officiating, along with Pastor Keith Morgan of Concord Trinity United Methodist Church of St. Louis. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Okawville immediately following the service.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, St. Louis MO 63123 (314-842-4458); and on Sunday, March 30, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Campagna Funeral Home, 700 South Front St., Okawville IL 62271 (618-243-5565).
