COLUMBIA — Eva Meentemeyer was an entrepreneur, a hair stylist and an admirer of cooking, fishing, boat rides and traveling.
Eva M. Meentemeyer of St. Louis died Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She was 96.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1917, in Okawville, Ill., to Jacob and Eula (Richards) Stricker. She married Oliver V. Meentemeyer on Sept. 3, 1949.
Mrs. Meentemeyer attended grade school in Okawville, and high school in Nashville, Ill., where she graduated in 1936. In 1944, she purchased the Main Beauty Shoppe in Okawville, which she operated until 1950. She and her husband moved to St. Louis in 1952, where Mrs. Meentemeyer continued to work as a hair stylist.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Meentemeyer was a member of the United Methodist Church in Okawville. She was also a member of the Concord Trinity United Methodist Church in St. Louis, where she was the chair of a church circle.
Mrs. Meentemeyer was passionate about the outdoors and spent a great deal of time camping, fishing, traveling and going on boat rides. She also loved writing about her life in her journals, which her son, Bruce Meentemeyer, described as beautiful.
Mrs. Meentemeyer is survived by a son, Bruce Meentemeyer, and his wife, Ruth, of Hartsburg; and two grandchildren, Price Meentemeyer and Ian Meentemeyer, both of Hartsburg.
Her husband, Oliver Meentemeyer; her son, Jan Meentemeyer; five sisters; and five brothers died earlier.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road in St. Louis, and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Campagna Funeral Home, 700 S. Front St. in Okawville, Ill. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, 404 N. Hanover St. in Okawville, Ill. Burial will follow at the IOOF cemetery in Okawville.
