COLUMBIA — A Boone County Sheriff's Department deputy was assaulted at 8 p.m. on Sunday in the 5900 block of Limoges Drive in northeast Columbia.

Trammond Roberts, 18, was arrested in the incident.

According to a sheriff's department news release, deputies were in the area investigating an unrelated offense when a man approached one deputy and stated his intention to take the deputy's firearm.

The man reached for the firearm, and the deputy attempted to take him into custody. The man resisted, but the deputy eventually placed him in custody, according to the news release.

Roberts was taken to the Boone County Jail and was still in custody Monday morning, according to the sheriff's department website.

Roberts was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer in the third degree and placed on $500 bond, as well as resisting arrest on $500 bond.
