Founded in 2012, Tiger Pantry is a food pantry that provides MU students, faculty and staff in need with food assistance once per month. The organization operates under a "no-questions asked" policy to giving out aid.
Nick Droege, as a member of the MSA Executive Cabinet, heard of the idea for a university food pantry while at the SEC Student Government Exchange in January 2012. He brought the idea back to Columbia and founded Tiger Pantry.
Services are open to all MU students, faculty and staff. A form must be filled out to receive a client card and ID number, which are used to request aid. New customers must also bring their university ID. Aid may be requested once per calendar month, whether 30 days have passed or not.
Tiger Pantry accepts donations via three methods.
- Donation bins in the CSI Greek Life Entrance, the Women's Center, Registrar's Office, Townsend Hall and Cornell Hall or by dropping donations off at Tiger Pantry during operating hours.
- Monetary donations through cash or check dropped off at the Center for Student Involvement in the MU Student Center.
- Online donations through a link on its website.
Tiger Pantry will help with food drives being held for it by other organizations. If contacted beforehand, it will provide a food drive kit with materials to hold the event and pick up donations afterward.
Staff at Tiger Pantry are student volunteers. Volunteers are selected each semester from applications. All volunteers must go through food and safety training.
