Herbert "Gene" Blank loved his family

COLUMBIA — Herbert "Gene" Blank loved his family and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Herbert "Gene" Blank died Sunday, April 20, 2014. He was 87.

He was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Boonville to Herbert Raymond and Iva Lucille (Waller) Blank. He married Lou Earlene Selsor on March 17, 1949, in Lamar.

Mr. Blank served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. He owned and operated Herb's Trucking in Boonville for a decade. His family was of the utmost importance to him.

Mr. Blank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lou Earlene Blank; a son, Herbert Blank Jr., and his wife, Karen, of Muncie, Ind.; a daughter, Linda Kelley, and her husband, Pat, of Columbia; siblings, Johnny Blank of Clinton, Kay Earls of Boonville, and Carl Blank and his wife, Charlene, of Columbia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

His brother, Bud, and his two sisters, Ann and Erma, died earlier.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery at the same address.
