Tolton freshman leads Columba high schools in golf tournament

Monday, April 28, 2014 | 9:10 p.m. CDT

All four Columbia area high school golf teams competed in the Capital City Classic at the Jefferson City Country Club on Monday.

The course was still wet from Sunday's rain; a steady wind blew over the course for most of the day.

Despite the difficult conditions, Fr. Tolton Regional Catholic High School freshman Jack Parker led all golfers with a tournament-low score of 73. Parker was the only medalist from the Columbia schools.

Tolton came in fourth place in the team scores, shooting 333.

While Parker claimed the individual medalist title for Tolton, Rock Bridge High School took first in the team competition with an overall score of 306. Jack Knoesel led the Bruins with a 76 stroke round.

There were 20 teams total.

Hickman High School and Battle High School did not fare as well.

Hickman recorded a team score of 361, which was 14 strokes better than Battle's 375.
