Motel residents pack up as Providence Suites closes down

The Providence Suites off Providence Road closed Thursday after a recent homicide. Residents were forced to move out by 11 a.m. Thursday.

COLUMBIA — Residents of Providence Suites had to pack up their belongings and move out of their rooms by 11 a.m. Thursday as the motel closed its doors.

On April 3, Morgan Myers, 16, was found dead in one of the rooms at Providence Suites. Columbia police treated the case as a homicide and have transferred the investigation to the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to previous Missourian reporting.

A month later, two residents, Thomas Weller and Renette Weller, carried plastic bags to Kim Davis' car, packing them into the trunk.

The Wellers have lived in Providence Suites since March 26. They moved there after the furnace at their home went out for more than 40 days, and the home they moved into next was deemed uninhabitable.

They're not sure where they'll go next.
