COLUMBIA — Stephens College softball players Jessica McConnell and Monica Nakamatsu earned American Midwest Conference recognition Friday despite the Stars' 11th-place finish in the conference standings.
McConnell was a first-team choice, and Nakamatsu was an honorable mention.
McConnell, who hit .433 in league play and led the Stars in batting average, RBIs, on-base percentage and doubles, became the first first-team selection in Stephens history. The shortstop also became the first Stephens player to win multiple All-Conference awards in her career. She earned honorable mention honors as a freshman.
Nakamatsu might be on the same track. The freshman second baseman led the Stars in hits with 44 and runs with 22. She also had 65 total bases, a team-high, and a .560 slugging percentage.
