COLUMBIA – Freshman Missouri pitcher Tori Finucane was named a Top 10 Finalist for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's first ever Division I Freshman of the Year award Thursday.
Finucane was recently named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, and she also earned First Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC recognition.
Earlier in the season, Finucane became the Missouri softball program's second player to earn both the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week and the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week awards in the same week. She also earned two SEC Pitcher of the Week awards this season.
Finucane finished the regular season second in the league in both overall and conference-only ERA, with marks of 1.70 and 2.03, respectively. The 11 SEC games she won ranked fourth in the conference. Currently with a record of 21-6, she has struck out 168 batters in 190.1 innings and holds opposing batters to a .223 batting average.
The top three finalists for the National Freshman of the Year award will be chosen May 22, and the trophy will be awarded live before the opening of the Women's College World Series on May 27 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
