COLUMBIA – Michael Sam kissed his boyfriend on ESPN. He had just been drafted 249th by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL draft. Twitter, the popular social media site, exploded.
Thank you to the St. Louis Rams and the whole city of St. Louis. I'm using every once of this to achieve greatness!! pic.twitter.com/QESdOJVzsw— Michael Sam (@MikeSamFootball) May 10, 2014
Jemele Hill, an ESPN employee, responded to a tweet asking if she consented to the network airing the kiss.
It was hard for many to watch the moment unfold and not feel something. Sam answered his phone and struggled to talk. After several seconds he leaned on a table and cried. His boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, according to Sam's spokesperson Howard Bragman, rested his head on Sam's back while tears flowed.
