Sinkhole closes E. Gans Road

Monday, May 12, 2014 | 5:58 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — A sinkhole has prompted the Columbia Public Works Department to close a portion of  East Gans Road between Ponderosa Street and Discovery Drive until at least Tuesday.

Public Works crews haven't confirmed the size of the sinkhole. It is not endangering any property or homes, Public Works Spokesman Steve Sapp said.

Storms forecast for Monday night led crews to delay their inspection until Tuesday, Sapp said. The road will remain closed until they determine the scope of the problem.

The collapse is near MU's Discovery Ridge Research Park.
