Nancy Sebastian Finlay, Nov. 3, 1923 – May 14, 2014

Nancy Sebastian Finlay, 90, of Columbia passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Parker Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery.

Nancy was born November 3, 1923, in Callaway County, to Oliver Lee and Mary Fox Sebastian. She was the sixth of eight children. Nancy married Burl Allen Finlay on March 22, 1951, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1978. After graduating from Hereford High School in 1941, she attended Orton-Rice Business School. Nancy retired in 1988, after working many years in secretarial positions for: MU Agricultural Extension Service (‘43-‘51), Home Economics (‘54-‘55), MU Dairy Dept. (’63-’64) & MU Ag Econ (’66-’67); Smith, Lewis & Rogers Attorneys (‘67-‘78); Columbia EDP; and Mid-MO Children’s Services. She was a member of the Oak Chapel Methodist Church in Stephens, Missouri. Her mother, Mary Fox Sebastian, was a founding member of the Oak Chapel Cemetery Association. An active Association member, Nancy Finlay was instrumental in documenting historically important cemetery gravesite information. She was a lifetime Missouri resident who loved to read and work in her many flower gardens.

Nancy is survived by two daughters in Columbia, Louise Finlay Henke and husband Joe, and Commander Susan Finlay, U.S. Navy (Retired); one sister Martha McCray of Fulton, and one brother Charles E. Sebastian of Centralia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver F. Sebastian; and four sisters, Emma Renfro, Grace Norris, Letsey Dodd, and Mary Lee Sebastian.

The family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at Ashland Villa Assisted Living, Hospice Advantage, and Care Partners. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Oak Chapel Cemetery Association, in care of Parker Funeral Service, 22 North 10th Street, Columbia, MO, 65201.
