Nancy Sebastian Finlay, 90, of Columbia died Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
Mrs. Finlay was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Callaway County to Oliver Lee and Mary Fox Sebastian. She was the sixth of eight children.
She married Burl Allen Finlay on March 22, 1951; he died March 9, 1978. After graduating from Hereford High School in 1941, she attended Orton-Rice Business School.
Mrs. Finlay retired in 1988 after working many years in secretarial positions for MU Extension (1943-51); the home economics department (1954-1955); MU Dairy Department (1963-64); the MU agricultural economics department (1966-67); Smith, Lewis & Rogers Attorneys (1967-1978); Columbia EDP; and Mid-Missouri Children’s Services.
She was a member of the Oak Chapel Methodist Church in Stephens. Her mother was a founding member of the Oak Chapel Cemetery Association.
An active association member, Mrs. Finlay was instrumental in documenting historically important cemetery grave-site information. She was a lifetime Missouri resident who loved to read and work in her many flower gardens.
She is survived by two daughters in Columbia, Louise Finlay Henke and husband Joe and retired Navy Cmdr. Susan Finlay; one sister, Martha McCray of Fulton; one brother, Charles E. Sebastian of Centralia; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Oliver F. Sebastian, and four sisters, Emma Renfro, Grace Norris, Letsey Dodd and Mary Lee Sebastian, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. May 29 at Parker Funeral Service, followed by services at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery.
