COLUMBIA — Frances Violet Wood, 90, of Columbia, Missouri passed away May 19, 2014. Services will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at Parkade Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21 at Memorial Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Clarksburg, Missouri.
She was born November 25, 1923, to Dorothy McDowell and Albert Alonzo Birdsong in Clarksburg, Missouri. She married Doren Estel Wood on February 18, 1946. She and Estel have three sons, Robert Estel Wood, Donald Gene Wood and James Alan Wood.
Frances graduated from Prairie Home High School in 1942 and moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked for Hallmark Cards until she and Estel were married. After the boys started school, she began working with her husband at his shoe repair business (Dawson Shoe Repair).
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Bob and Mary Ann, Don and Elaine, and Jim and Leslie. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sarah (Timothy) Hixon, Matthew Wood (Calla Oneal), Michelle (Matthew) Cloutier, Michael (Cheryl) Wood, Jesse (Adam) Phillipps, Corey Wood (Heaven Lister), and Shawn Wood, along with six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and two sisters Audra Gunter, and Mary (Ross) Long.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Albert, and the love of her life, her husband of 64 years.
