COLUMBIA — Olin E. Fugit, Jr., 71, of Rocheport, passed away Thursday, May 22 at his Lake Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Parker Funeral Service. A memorial service will immediately follow at 7 p.m.
Olin was born November 10, 1942, in Fresno, California to Olin, Sr. and Anne Hunt Fugit, who preceded him in death. He married Phyllis Hoover 50 years ago and she survives.
Some of Olin’s favorite childhood memories were times spent with Boy Scout Troop 10, “The Panthers”, including adventures at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. After graduating from Hickman High School in 1961, he served with the Missouri Army National Guard 175th MP. Olin and his wife, Phyllis, shared a passion for politics and have been extremely active in the local, state and national political scene since the early 80’s. Also, during the 1980’s he grew tobacco and raised cattle in South West Boone County. Olin was a member of the Huntsdale Baptist Church; Served on the Central Missouri Labor Council; A member of Elk Club No. 594; and a very active member of the Boone County Democratic Central Committee. Olin had the opportunity to participate in several archeological digs in Missouri, as well as helping to restore several historic buildings at Boone Junction, located at the Boone County Historical Society. Also, in his retirement he was very interested in Native American artifacts and enjoyed attending several Pow Wows in Missouri. Olin was a retired Union Pipefitter, serving with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562.
Other survivors include his son Darin Fugit and wife Angie; three grandchildren Carter and Charlie Fugit and Madison Cunningham all of Columbia; and one brother, Alan and wife Diane of Captiva Island, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Jan Fugit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Boone County Historical Society or the University of Missouri’s Museum of Anthropology.
