Columbia College track and field competes for first time at NAIA Outdoor Championships

Lindsey Martin and Tommy Skosky wrapped up their seasons Saturday at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.

The duo was the first ever to represent the Cougars at the national meet.

Martin and Skosky each qualified in the preliminary rounds of the women's 5000 meter run and men's 3000 meter steeplechase, respectively. Martin finished sixth overall with a time of 18:11 in the 5000, while Skosky clocked in at 9:26 to finish 13th in his event.

In the final women's 5000 meter run, Martin ran in a time of 17:39 to finish 7th overall. Skosky finished 14th in the men's steeplechase final with a time of 9:46.

Martin was also announced as a 2014 NAIA Scholar-Athlete Award winner on Saturday. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior class standing.
