MISSOURIAN MINUTE: Central Missouri Humane Society has 'puppies galore'

Monday, June 9, 2014 | 3:33 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Volunteers and community members battled the heat in Forrest Rose Park for the Central Missouri Humane Society's "Dogs and Puppies Galore" adoption event.

The Humane Society usually holds eight to 10 adoption events a year in its effort to find homes for the animals at the shelter.

Events like the one on June 1 are especially necessary in the summer. During the summer, dogs get loose, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered have litters of puppies that usually end up in the shelter, said Colin LaVaute, shelter relations coordinator.

The volunteers found homes for 16 dogs.
