COLUMBIA — A man was being held on a domestic assault charge and $4,500 bond Tuesday after police said he tried to force his ex-girlfriend to go back to Iowa with him.
Jody Magers, 40, of Anamosa, Iowa, was arrested Sunday after Columbia police were tipped off that a woman was being held against her will.
Police said the incident began Sunday morning when a woman asked Magers to leave a residence in the 3600 block of Ironwood Drive. He tried to take her back to Iowa with him where he planned to kill her, Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroersaid. She said the pair had been in a relationship.
The victim managed to text a friend, who was then able to call the police, Stroer said.
Magers was being held in the Boone County Jail on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault with a bond of $4,500.
Magers also had three out-of-county outstanding warrants for assault, failure to appear for a traffic violation, and failure to appear for assault.
