COLUMBIA — A woman told police she was pulled into a downtown alley and raped on June 6.

She said she was walking home from Bengal's Bar & Grill around 12:30 a.m. when an unidentified person forced her into an alley — possibly near Fifth Street — and raped her, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said in an email.

The victim could not provide more specific details as to the identity or the appearance of the attacker.

Police officers were sent to a nearby hospital for a sexual assault report around 3:32 p.m. later that day.

The victim's information is confidential at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, Stroer said.
