Gertie White was founding member of Columbia Area Senior Center

COLUMBIA — Gertie L. White of Columbia died Monday, June 16, 2014. She was 107.

She was born Sept. 15, 1906, to Leander Patterson Lewis and Viola Tennessee Denton. She married James A. Rutter, who preceded her in death in 1958. She later married Butler White.

She is remembered as an avid bridge player and a founding member of the Columbia Area Senior Center.

Mrs. White is survived by a daughter, Ellen Jane Smith and her husband, Ray; seven grandchildren, James Lewis Rutter and his wife, Cathy, David Rutter and his wife, Jane, Scott Rutter and his wife, Sara, Brenda Walker and her husband, David, Michael Smith and his wife, Lisa, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Sherolyn, and Pamela Bellaver and her husband, Todd; and several great-grandchildren.

Her husbands, James A. Rutter and Butler White; a son, Charles L. Rutter; two brothers; and four sisters died earlier.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at the same address.
