COLUMBIA — You've just moved into a residence hall, and now you need to furnish your new space on a budget. This is a sampling of secondhand stores with furnishings and accessories.

MIDWAY ANTIQUE MALL & FLEA MARKETMidway Antique Mall & Flea Market has more than 375 booths and displays from home and abroad, including antique furniture, vintage records, primitives, jewelry, coins, art collectibles and books.

ITCHY'S FLEA MARKETItchy’s Flea Market was established in 1992 and has antiques and collectibles ranging from sports cards to figurines. Over 125 dealers stock items there.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITYDifferent from other secondhand stores, Habitat For Humanity ReStore mainly sells hardware and other items used in construction. The handy student will find ways to repurpose them as home improvements.

THE WARDROBE: The Wardrobe offers reduced prices on clothing, books and furniture among other things. It allows donations as well.

SALVATION ARMY THRIFT STORES: The Salvation Army has two locations for your shopping needs. For those with cars, The Salvation Army Thrift Store close to the Business Loop offers donated clothes and furniture. The Salvation Army Red Shield west of downtown has the same stuff and is a walkable distance from campus.

VALUE GIANT THRIFT SHOPPE:  This place has clothes, furniture, dishware, books and novelty items such as coins and jewelry.

COLUMBIA GOODWILL: Some of the cheapest items can be found here, and you can give back, too. Donations of your own surplus clothes and other essentials are always welcome.

UPSCALE RESALE: The Assistance League of Mid-Missouri runs this business, which offers quality merchandise, including furniture, china, books, DVDs, jewelry, shoes and more.

NEW BEGINNING CONSIGNMENT CLOTHING: New Beginning offers a  variety of gently used, name brand clothing, from jeans and T-shirts to suits and party dresses just a few blocks north of campus.
