Raymond Griffin loved to play guitar, bowl

COLUMBIA – Raymond Griffin of Columbia died Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was 88.

He was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Columbia to Charles and Annie Griffin.

Mr. Griffin was an avid bowler and a member of the Nashville Church Country Gospel Band. He loved to fish, sing and play the guitar.

He is survived by one daughter, Raeann Akers and her husband, Mike; one son, Randy Griffin, and his wife, Yvette; four grandchildren: Michael Akers, and his wife, Jennifer, Jeana Akers, Kaitlyn Griffin and Baily Griffin; one great-grandson, Mason Akers; six stepchildren: Roger Morris and his wife, DeeDee, John Morris and his wife, Teresa, Jennie Morris, Wanda Cunningham and her husband, Harold, Mark Morris and his wife, Melanie, and Sharon Newman and her husband, Mark; and 39 stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His parent, Charles and Annie Griffin; his first wife, Minnie Jane Griffin; second wife, Margaret Griffin; a sister, Mary Richards; and a stepgrandson, Rylan Newman, died earlier.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. A service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, which is northeast of the Chapel Hill Road and the South Fairview Road intersection.
