Danny Ray Griggs, March 10, 1946 — June 21, 2014, of Hallsville

Danny Ray Griggs, 68, of Hallsville passed away Saturday, June 21 at Boone Hospital.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home.  Service will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. also at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.   

He was born March 10, 1946 in Boone County to the late Alfred Lemuel and Laura Lillian Crane Griggs.  On July 26, 1968 he married Martha Sue Black in Pierpont and she survives.   

Danny served in the Army 1966-1967 and served in the Vietnam War receiving National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal .  He enjoyed being a softball and baseball coach in Hallsville.  He loved working with kids.  He retired from the Columbia Fire Department after twenty-two years of service. He then worked for the Centralia and Hallsville School systems retiring from Hallsville School District in 2012 after eighteen years of service.  He cherished time with his grandchildren.    

In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by one son Kevin Griggs of Hallsville; one daughter, Kimberly (Fon) Huang of Springfield; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Hannah, Chloe and Jackson Huang of Springfield; and several close nieces and nephews. 

He is also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
