TELL US: What's life like in your backyard?

Monday, June 23, 2014 | 4:11 p.m. CDT

In honor of the Fourth of July, Missourian photojournalist Matt McCormack wants to paint a picture of how Columbia folks use their backyards.

Is yours a hotbed of activity, with nonstop swingset or croquet action? Or does it contain a garden that's a labor of love?

Is your backyard meticulously maintained or in need of weeding? An extension of your home or an afterthought? Is the space yours alone, or do you look out over a common area or parking lot?

Journalists often seek to capture everyday life, and we're asking for your help with this one. Would you allow Matt McCormack to come photograph life in your backyard? And yep, we mean the mundane parts of life — like mowing the crabgrass and evening drinks on the patio — along with family barbecues and birthday parties.

If you're willing to talk to Matt, please call him at 823-2550 or email him at
