Dorothy Lipscomb, Dec. 4, 1929 — June 23, 2014, of Columbia

Dorothy Lipscomb, 84, of Columbia passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral Services will be 10:00AM, Thursday, June 26 at Riggs Union United Methodist Church, burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery Columbia, MO. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Wednesday at Nilson Funeral Home in Columbia.

Dorothy was born December 4, 1929 in Audrain County, MO to Roy and Ethel Brooks Bowne. She graduated from Sturgeon High School in 1948. On June 6, 1948 she married Millard “Jack” Lipscomb. Together they lived on a farm south of Sturgeon. She was a member of the Riggs Union United Methodist Church, where she served as both a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Superintendent for many years. There, she was also a Lay Speaker. Dorothy was a 4-H Leader for 15 years. In 1962 the Lipscomb family was chosen “Boone Farm Family of the Year.” She was also a member of the Riggs “Know Your Neighbor” extension club for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jack; three sons, Glen Lipscomb of Harrisburg, MO, Bill Lipscomb of Sturgeon, MO, and Jerry Lipscomb of Clark, MO; one daughter, Charlut Shepherd of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Bowne of Sturgeon, MO. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eldred Bowne and a sister Norma Bradley.

Memorials are suggested to the Riggs Union Church Memorial fund.
