COLUMBIA — Three masked intruders broke into a man's house and shot him in the stomach Monday morning.

The men kicked in the front door of the victim's house in the 5300 block of Trikalla Drive in the Lake of the Woods area, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Department news release. They took a purse and a cellphone from the house.

A 37-year-old woman and a five-year-old boy who were also in the residence at the time of the incident weren't injured, according to the release. It wasn't clear if just one or all of the men were armed, or at what point in the incident the shooting happened, O'Sullivan said.

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home at 5:07 a.m. and arrived at 5:14 a.m., O’Sullivan said.

The victim, 33, was taken to a local hospital for treatment for a single gunshot wound to the stomach, according to the release. There was no information about the victim’s condition as of 9:20 a.m. Monday, O’Sullivan said.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department detectives and deputies were at the scene investigating Monday morning, O'Sullivan said.
