Fourth of July events in central Missouri

This week, residents around mid-Missouri will be celebrating the country's birthday in style. Here's a listing of some of the parades, fireworks shows and live music performances that will be taking place.


What: Fire in the Sky, 62nd annual Fourth of July celebration

When: 6:30 p.m. Friday. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.

Where: Entertainment stages at Peace Park and Flat Branch Park, and children's activities at Flat Branch Park. Fireworks will be launched from the parking garage at Sixth and Cherry streets.

Cost: Free

Details: Fireworks choreographed to music on KBXR/102.3 FM. Parking is available throughout The District and MU in any city or university-owned lots and parking garages unless marked as closed.


What: Salute to America: A Capitol Celebration

When: Thursday through Saturday

Where: The state Capitol and elsewhere in Jefferson City.

Cost: Admission is free, but concessions and activities may cost extra.

Details: Three days of food, live entertainment and other attractions. The Independence Day parade starts at 6 p.m. Thursday. The fireworks display begins at dusk (about 9:15 p.m.) Friday, and a patriotic accompaniment will be played on KBBM/100.1 FM. See a full schedule at the Salute to America website.


What: Annual July 4th Parade

When: 9 a.m. Friday. Lineup begins at 8 a.m.

Where: Lineup will be outside the Southern Boone Primary School, 809 S. Henry Clay Blvd., Ashland

Cost: Free

Details: According to the Facebook page: "Decorate your bicycle, tractor, car, truck, or motorcycle and come join in the parade."


What: Impromptu Parade

When: 2 p.m. Friday

Where: Eighth and Main streets

Cost: Free

In addition to community events, celebrations are also being offered at entertainment venues. They include:


What: The Stars & Bar Night I & II: Celebrating 238 Years of American Awesomeness

When: Thursday and Friday; Doors at 5 p.m., show at 6 p.m.

Where: Forrest Rose Park, Mojo's, 1013 Park Ave.

Cost: Free, $2 surcharge for minors. (Donations accepted at the door.)

Details: Thursday's performers include Decadent Nation, The Many Colored Death, Chemical Mass and Downphase. Friday's include The Kay Brothers, The Flood Brothers and Orchard Fire.


What: Fireworks on the Bluff

When: 5 p.m. Saturday. Fireworks start at sundown.

Where: Les Bourgeois Vineyards, 14020 W. Highway BB, Rocheport

Details: Barbecue and a fireworks show. Live music from Man In The Ring.
