ST. CHARLES — A former Wentzville day care provider is charged with felony child abuse in the 2009 death of an 18-month-old boy.

Forty-year-old Lisa West turned herself in Monday and posted $100,000 bail after being indicted recently by a St. Charles grand jury in the death of Mason Beach.

The boy suffered a head injury at the day care center. A medical examiner said the boy died of blunt force trauma but West was not charged at the time.

St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar says his office investigated the case again last year and concluded the death was not an accident.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that in 2012, Mason's family won a $707,000 civil suit after a St. Charles County jury ruled West was negligent in caring for Mason.
