COLUMBIA — Hickman High School football coach Arnel Monroe was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated early Sunday morning, the Columbia Police Department confirmed.

Monroe, 47, was booked into Boone County Jail at 4:22 a.m.; he was released later Sunday morning after he posted $500 bail.

Monroe was stopped at a DUI sobriety checkpoint on Clark Lane. This is Monroe's second DWI charge.

He was first arrested on June 6, 2006, according to court records. He pleaded guilty and received two years probation, which he completed successfully on Nov. 17, 2008.

Monroe has been the Hickman head football coach since 2011. But in 2013, he was suspended from coaching for an unspecified "issue," according to previous Missourian reporting. After two weeks, he was reinstated.

Supervising editor is Mary Ryan.
