COLUMBIA — A 69-year-old woman was seriously injured after a bull attacked her Thursday at her home southeast of Columbia.

The woman and her husband were with the bull in the pasture of their home at 11201 Barnes Chapel Road when it attacked, said Price Nichols, spokesman for the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District.

"I don't know what they were doing out there," Nichols said. "From the sound of her injuries, the bull had horns, I'm assuming, and got her down and gored her."

The woman suffered severe lacerations to the head and right leg, broken ribs and severe internal injuries, Nichols said.

Emergency services responded to the call shortly after noon. The woman was taken to University Hospital by helicopter.

Nichols said he did not know the name of the victim.
