UPDATE: Body found in Mississippi River in St. Louis identified

Tuesday, July 22, 2014 | 2:03 p.m. CDT

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police say a man whose body was found in the Mississippi River apparently had been dead for several days.

Firefighters who were doing water training pulled the body out of the river in downtown St. Louis on Saturday near the Eads Bridge after it was first seen by a tug boat crew.

When firefighters found the body, it was floating in the middle of the river.

Authorities have confirmed that the body was that of David Brangenberg, a missing St. Peters man. He had been missing since July 5. His pickup truck was found in Bridgeton.

An investigation into the cause of death continues, but police do not suspect foul play.
