Friday, August 1, 2014 | 6:22 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Inspired by what they see as unfair criticisms of Israel, local Jewish organizations will host a community gathering Sunday to present their case for supporting the Jewish state's invasion of the Gaza strip.

Congregation Beth Shalom, Mizzou Hillel and Chabad will host a panel of local lay and religious leaders offering their thoughts on the situation, according to a news release.

Guest speakers will include Tom Leuther, pastor of the Family Worship Center; Dr. Lawrence Okamura, MU professor of history; and Cole County Sheriff Greg White. Other local religious leaders will be present.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom, 500 W. Green Meadows Road.

Supervising editor is Samuel Hardiman
