Columbia track team grabs Junior Olympics awards

COLUMBIA — Three members of Columbia's Blue Thunder Track Club won a combined four national championships at last weekend's Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa.

Eryn Puett, 12, won the high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches and won the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 1.25 inches. She was also the runner-up in the pentathlon.

Peyton Davis captured the high jump title for 13-year-olds with a 5-foot-8-inch mark.

Eight-year-old Joshua Larkins won the shot put competition with a throw of 26 feet, 10.5 inches.

Blue Thunder sent 42 athletes to Drake University for the games, which included 10,000 athletes from across the country.

The team scored 16 All-American crowns, awarded to top-eight finishes.
