Columbia man arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault

COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff's Department arrested an 18-year-old  man suspected of breaking into a residence and assaulting another person in the home.

Gerrell Lawrence was arrested after he allegedly broke into the residence of someone he knew and assaulted a juvenile resident, according to a news release.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of Sonora Drive around 2:04 p.m. where Lawrence allegedly forced his way inside and assaulted the victim, breaking items in the residence, the release said.

According to the release, Lawrence was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary, second-degree property damage and third-degree assault.
